Paint Zoom Reviews

Paint Zoom is a DIY tool that allows you to freshen up a variety of surfaces with a new coat of paint in much less time than it would take you to do it by hand with a bucket of paint and a brush.

Done for you or DIY surface refreshing?

We all dream of achieving a fast, professional finish in our decor, both inside and outside our homes. Getting a professional decorator costs a lot of money, so many people opt to simply do it themselves, but who has the time to spare to get a great job done without help?

In today’s society, we are arguably busier than ever before, so filling up your spare time in an old shirt with a paintbrush in hand is not even close to what most people would call relaxing.

Someone obviously saw a gap in the market, because Ideal Living brought out the paint zoom product which claims to cut your painting time and your costs in half. Learn more about the product and also what people say about Paint Zoom in the Reviews!

About The Paint Zoom

What is the Paint Zoom?

The Paint Zoom is a small, portable paint sprayer that is used in conjunction with an airbrush and built-in compressor. It has an easy-to-use trigger and the ability to adjust the flow of paint and the spread of the paint through the nozzle.

The paint zoom comes in two models currently which are the Paint Zoom 3000 Deluxe, and the Paint Zoom Pro 3000.

Some people are anxious about using contractors or tradespeople to perform paintwork-based tasks both inside and outside their homes.

Even if you get a recommendation from someone you trust and see suitable references, there’s no guarantee that they’re going to succeed in doing the job to your satisfaction. If they don’t, you then have the option of either paying them anyway or settling it in court.

No one needs that kind of stress in their lives and all over the painting of a garden fence or interior wall.

It’s just not worth the hassle, but doing it yourself has its own downsides. The mess, the time, and the effort it takes to complete a painting job, especially if it’s a big project can feel overwhelming.

That’s why Paint Zoom has created its handheld air-powered paint sprayer.

Which are the professional products from Paint Zoom?

The two Paint Zoom products claim to create a professional finish for the fraction of the cost of hiring a professional to do it for you, and without the need for messy brushes, uneven rollers, or teetering on the steps of high ladders.

Both models use a powerful motor to evenly distribute the paint, and the nozzle head rotates and provides a variety of spray angles so that you can paint different types of jobs on various surfaces with precision.

Let’s take a look at the two Paint Zoom models, so you can see the benefits and shortfalls (if there are any), of both. Also, check the Paint Zoom Review summary below!

1. The Paint Zoom Deluxe 3000

Paint Zoom Deluxe 3000

This is the most affordable Paint Zoom sprayer of the two Paint Zoom products. With this sprayer, you can easily paint walls, stucco, brick, paneling, concrete, ceilings, and wood.

The sprayer system claims that it could make more efficient use of the paint too, so you could end up using fifty percent of the paint you would have used with a brush or roller. But still giving an even and thorough coat covering.

The Deluxe is ultra-light and has a 700-watt motor that propels the paint. It is trigger-operated, so you simply fill the paint container up with a paint of your choice, ensuring it is correctly thinned according to the instruction manual, point, and spray.

The sprayer head has three settings for different types of painting projects and situations. It has a wide horizontal spraying mode for fast coverage of large surfaces.

It also has a wide vertical spraying mode and a pinpoint setting for those tight spots that require more precision.

The Deluxe Paint Zoom sprayer claims to deliver “superior, one-coat coverage†which will certainly save you time and money if you’re doing large projects by yourself.

Pros

  • One-touch trigger operation is easy to use.
  • Light and portable design ensures that anyone of any age or strength can use it comfortably.
  • 700-watt motor.
  • 3-way dial spray head.
  • 1-year warranty and 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • Electric paint sprayer — An airless paint sprayer uses manual pressure to create suction and power the pumping of the paint, but these can be hard work to operate and expensive.
  • Reasonably priced compared to other paint sprayers.
  • No need for brushes, rollers, or a paint tray.

Cons

  • Some users found that getting the viscosity of the paint correct proved to be difficult. Using paint that hasn’t been thinned can cause blockages and problems with the sprayer.
  • Can be harder to clean than brushes or rollers. This will be especially difficult for thicker paints and oil-based paint where you might need more than water to flush the system out.
  • Because it is electric, this might restrict places you can use it, especially for an outdoor project where power sockets may not be available.

2. The Paint Zoom Pro 3000

Paint Zoom Pro 3000

The main difference between the Pro 3000 and the Deluxe is the power of the motor. Other than that, the features remain the same. The more powerful Paint Zoom Pro might be more suitable for those who will be using it regularly.

Not necessarily for a professional, but for those who perhaps need to keep their white picket fences a gleaming all-American shade of white all year round, or those who intend to use it to repaint and touch up the paintwork on the outside of their house which is likely to need re-doing every year, or possibly more often, if you live in a coastal or windy area.

If you are going to be using your Paint Zoom for more than occasional use, you might appreciate a more powerful appliance, particularly if the paint jobs you will be using it for are large.

Just bear in mind that the paint cup holds 30 oz of paint, so you’ll have to refill and dilute the paint all over again every time you do. Other paint sprayers might have larger paint tank capacities, but these will of course be heavier.

Pros

  • One-touch trigger operation is easy to use.
  • Light and portable design ensures that people of any age, strength, or ability can use it comfortably.
  • 925-watt motor.
  • 3-way dial spray head.
  • 1-year warranty and 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • Electric paint sprayer — An airless paint sprayer uses manual pressure to create suction and power the pumping of the paint, but these can be hard work to operate and expensive.
  • No need for brushes, rollers, or a paint tray.

Cons

  • Again, some users found that getting the viscosity of the paint right was tricky. Using paint that hasn’t been thinned, or especially thick paint can cause blockages and problems with the spray gun.
  • Can be harder to clean than brushes or rollers. This will be especially difficult for thicker paints and oil-based paint where you might need more than water to flush the system out.
  • Because it is electric, this might restrict places you can use it, especially for an outdoor project where power sockets may not be available.
  • Marginally more expensive than the Deluxe 3000 model.

Reviews Of The Paint Zoom

What are people saying about the product in the most recent Paint Zoom Reviews?

Firstly the Paint Zoom Deluxe 3000 sprayer has achieved a modest 4.1 stars out of five on Amazon with 59 percent of customers giving the product five out of five stars at the time of writing.

The Paint Zoom Pro 300 (sometimes referred to as the Platinum model) has the same customer score.

While there were many positive reviews that we found there were a few disgruntled customers too.

The biggest problems that users had with the Paint Zoom products was the paint being too thick and clogging the system through the nozzle, the spray head, or other parts of the machine.

The amount of water you need for different types of paint is outlined in the instruction manual, but there is also a viscosity testing cup included with the products.

So, you can test the unthinned paint and easily calculate how many parts of water to paint you will need regardless of what type of paint it is.

Users who took every recommended step to ensure the paint’s compatibility with the Paint Zoom sprayer reported much better results with their Paint Zoom than those who did not take care to dilute the paint to the proper viscosity.

This instructional video gives a comprehensive explanation of how to test and dilute unthinned paints including latex paints.

Some users described the claim that the Paint Zoom will give a perfect one-coat coverage as nonsense and said the Paint Zoom produced a very uneven coat which they were not pleased with.

The instruction manual and video we have linked to above explain that while it may be possible to get an even single coat in optimum circumstances, there are many other factors to consider, and your surface is unlikely to be within the optimum parameters for spraying.

If you are covering a dark color with a lighter color, or the wall has imperfections then two or more coats would be needed for an even finish.

If your paint sprayer still does not give you consistent results, it will be worth re-checking the viscosity of the paint to make sure it is not causing small blockages in the machine which will lead to uneven spraying.

Our Thoughts

Having personal experience with an airless sprayer that needed considerable strength to operate through manual pump pressure, we think that the electric Paint Zoom sounds like an excellent idea for domestic, or commercial painting situations.

The price is very reasonable for a paint spray gun and the fact that you can pay in installments is also a welcome feature. There are one or two things we’re not so convinced about though.

We couldn’t find any specific information on the Paint Zoom website about which types of paints the Paint Zoom will work with, but we assume the safest options would be water-based paints such as fence paint for outdoor projects or emulsion for ceilings and walls.

These types of paint are naturally thinner than oil-based paints, and they’ll be easy to dilute further with water.

Oil-based paints like certain wood varnishes, lacquers, and gloss paints are likely to cause more of a problem if you use them with the Paint Zoom. For one thing, they are thicker and much less viscous which will affect the paint flow rate and therefore the performance.

Diluting oil-based paints would be extremely challenging because oil and water do not mix, and the reason they are thick in the first place is for coverage and weatherproofing reasons which will be compromised if they are somehow diluted enough to resemble a thin paint.

We feel like the manufacturers don’t make it clear enough of the limitations of the Paint Zoom sprayer which lessens consumer trust in the brand.

Cleaning this design with the many parts of the system in contact with the paint sounds like a veritable nightmare and no amount of anyone telling us that it’s easy to disassemble and clean will persuade us that it’s quicker and easier than rinsing a paintbrush under the faucet.

That’s another reason why using paint that is not water-based will cause you a problem. It congeals quickly and can’t be washed with water, but requires other chemicals to clean. We can’t quite see how that’s going to work.

Despite this, we are convinced that the Paint Zoom will solve a lot of the obstacles to people doing their own painting jobs.

People who are elderly or have reduced strength capabilities would find climbing up and down a ladder with heavy containers of paint, or paint trays a very unpleasant prospect.

The Paint Zoom weighs around three or four pounds and has a shoulder strap and a waist belt attachment to take a lot of the weight of the power pack.

The spray gun part is very light, and it’s faster too, so if you do have to hold it over your head to do the tops of the walls, it won’t be for as long as you’d otherwise be holding a roller or brush.

Summary

Overall, we think that the Paint Zoom is worth the price tag for those who are serious about getting a professional finish on their domestic painting jobs.

Our advice is that like all paint sprayers, the Paint Zoom will be much messier than it seems in the infomercials, so wear protective clothes, cover the floors and furniture, and tape up the areas that need precise cutting in around like sockets and skirting boards.

Also for the love of all good things, do not make the mistake of thinking you can spray fences with gaps in, railings, or mesh without also painting whatever is behind it in the process. Use the manual or instruction videos as your guide, not the infomercials.

Otherwise, just spray a thinner coat first, then a slightly thicker one on top, make sure the viscosity is right before you start, and ensure you clean the Paint Zoom properly between uses. If you do all that, you should be just fine.
